Fresh off the heatwave, we have listed a month full of exciting activities for the whole family in Cheshire this May.

9th May

City Day – Chester Racecourse

The 2018 season opener of the Boodles May Festival, City Day is guaranteed to offer on-track action as top-class contenders go head to head to compete at Epsom later in the season.

2017 was a winning year for Chester, producing a Derby winner in Wings of Eagles and a double Oaks winner in Enable. The day is set to provide plenty of thrills and high calibre racing.

10th May

Ladies Day – Chester Racecourse

Ladies day is set to mix competitive handicaps and top class Group races combined with the vibrancy of an enthusiastic stylish crowd. The Ormonde and Dee Stakes will be the feature races of the day and ladies take part in a Best Dressed competition to be in with a chance of winning some fabulous prizes.

11th May

Chester Cup Day – Chester Racecourse

The final day of the Boodles May Festival finishes with the highest profile race – the Chester Cup. Supported by the Huxley Stakes, Chester Cup Day will command the largest crowd of the three days and a palpable atmosphere.

19-20 May

Country Show 2018 – Tatton Park

In its fifth year, the Tatton Park Country Show is a family affair guaranteed to entertain the whole family. The Country Fair includes entertainment from the Equestrienne All Female Horse Stunt Display Team, Jez Avery’s Stunt Bikes and Buggies, PADS dog training including have-a-go scurry and agility. Living History from medieval right through to World War 2, Terrier Racing, Birds of Prey Flying Displays, Goat Show including bottle feeding lambs and kids, children’s petting pens as well as children’ entertainment from Mario Magic as well as Arts, Crafts and Gifts Marquees, Food Hall and outside Trade Stands.

27th May

Family Fun Day – Oulton Park

This year’s Family Fun Day at Oulton Park is a Medieval-themed day filled with jousting displays, art and crafts in the kids’ tent and a stunning Knights of the Crusade show.

Other attractions on the day include the Wonder Wheels ‘have-a-go’ bike park for children, bouncy castles and inflatables, mini monster trucks, slot car racing, Circus Avago and lots more (separate charges may apply). Adult visitors can relax in the Pimms tent or enjoy an afternoon cuppa and cake in the tea tent.

27-28 May

Joust! Tournament and Melee – Beeston Castle

Jousting goes back to its roots in this no-holds-barred contest of strength, skill and horsemanship. Watch on as four daring knights battle it out in this authentic 13th-century competition.
