Celebrating 10 Years of Culinary Excellence: Cyril Gabriel

This year marks a very special milestone at Carden Park as we celebrate Head Chef Cyril Gabriel’s 10th year with our culinary team. From a young chef on placement to leading our kitchens with creativity and passion, Cyril’s journey is one defined by  growth and an unwavering commitment to excellence in the hospitality industry.

Cyril first joined Carden Park in 2015, travelling from his charming hometown of Limoges in Central France for what was meant to be a three-month placement. At just 20 years old, he couldn’t have known that this opportunity would shape his entire career. Inspired by the creativity and camaraderie he found within the Carden Park kitchens, he decided to return permanently after completing his culinary degree — beginning his journey as a Commis Chef.

Over the years, Cyril steadily rose through the ranks, moving from Chef de Partie to Senior Sous Chef and now, in 2025, achieving the well-deserved position of Head Chef. His rise has been built on hard work and a genuine passion for food that shines through in every dish he creates.

A Passion for Mentorship and Team Growth

Those who work alongside Cyril admire not only his undeniable culinary talent but also his generosity as a mentor. He takes great pride in nurturing young chefs and helping them progress, just as he once did. One of his current protégés, Jay Littler, Chef de Partie in The Vines team, is learning classical cooking under Cyril’s guidance, with both sharing aspirations for Jay to compete for North West Young Chef of the Year in the near future.

Cyril’s influence extends beyond the kitchen. His calm leadership and willingness to guide others reflect the same encouragement he once received early in his own career. His passion for teaching and teamwork ensures that the next generation of chefs at Carden Park will continue to uphold the same high standards he embodies.

The Vines: A Legacy of Fine Dining

Cyril’s influence is perhaps most visible at The Vines Restaurant, Carden Park’s fine-dining venue which he helped develop from concept through to opening in 2021. His vision and creativity have helped the restaurant earn three AA Rosettes and his dedication to quality ensures that every guest enjoys a truly memorable experience.

A highlight of his achievements came during the French Gourmet Evening held at the venue — a sold-out event that paid tribute to his heritage and showcased his mastery of classical French cuisine. The beautifully crafted menu featured dishes such as Oeuf parfait with velouté de champignons, Carré d’agneau with Dijon mustard and herb crust and a Soufflé Normandie with Calvados and apple sorbet. Each dish was rigorously tested, perfected with feedback and paired with carefully selected wines. Cyril even stepped out of the kitchen to share with guests the inspiration behind the evening, speaking fondly about his mother’s home cooking — a touching reminder of the roots that continue to guide his culinary style.

Cyril’s passion for excellence has been evident since early in his career, when he was named North West Young Chef. His entry was described by judge and former Master Chef of Great Britain, Graham Price as showing “real passion, pride and endeavour.” Despite such recognition, Cyril remains modest about his accomplishments, always preferring to let his food — and his team — speak for him.
