Highland Games: Team Building Experience

If you’re searching for a team building event in Cheshire that’s brimming with energy, laughter and a healthy dose of friendly competition, look no further than the Highland Games experience at Carden Park Hotel. Drawing inspiration from the Gaelic tradition dating back as early as 1031, our Highland Games not only celebrate Scottish culture but also tap into the camaraderie, competitiveness and unity that makes any team thrive.

Whether you’re planning a small team bonding experience or hosting a large-scale corporate retreat, the Highland Games are brilliantly structured into multiple rotating activities. This means everyone stays engaged, active and involved – no standing around twiddling your thumbs.  Each station offers a unique challenge that’s easy to pick up and are heaps of fun for all ages and abilities. This particular activity is hosted at Carden Park by authentic Scottish event creators Maximillion.

Here’s a closer look at some of the activities you’ll encounter during your Highland Games experience:

👢 Welly Wanging

Yes, it’s as fun to do as it is to say! This classic crowd-pleaser has you gripping a wellington boot, then hurling it over your shoulder towards designated point targets. Sounds simple? Wait until you try it. Precision and power are the name of the game here. It’s always a hit – and usually prompts a lot of laughs.

💥 Shotput

A Highland staple, shotput lets you tap into your inner Olympian. Launch a hefty spherical ball as far as your strength allows. Our professional tip: the louder the grunt, the farther it seems to go. Expect plenty of cheering (and some dramatic throws) as team members give it their all.

🐑 Haggis Hailing

No real haggis were harmed in the making of this game! Instead, we provide a fluffy herd of faux haggis for you to lob towards a Scotsman’s bucket. It’s light-hearted, silly and surprisingly addictive. Aim well and your team could rack up some crucial points.

Highland Games: Team Building Experience

🌲 Caber Tossing

Arguably the most iconic Highland event, caber tossing is a true test of strength and technique. Each participant must lift and toss a large, tapered pole aiming to land it as straight as possible from the starting line. It’s not just about distance – it’s about precision and form.

🥃 Whisky Tasting

And to wrap it all up in true Scottish style, participants are invited to unwind with a whisky tasting. After all that effort, you’ve earned it! Sample a range of Scottish whiskies and toast to your team’s triumphs – or valiant efforts – on the field.

The Highland Games provide a perfect blend of culture and fun. The variety of games ensures everyone can get involved, regardless of fitness or experience. From the creative and quirky to the strong and strategic, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

More than just a good laugh (though you’ll have plenty of those), the Games are a great metaphor for teamwork: embracing challenges, supporting one another and celebrating both individual flair and group success.
